Description

This 20-Minute Garlic Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein is a quick, flavorful meal made with tender beef, crisp broccoli, and noodles tossed in a savory, sweet sauce. Ready in just 20 minutes, it’s the perfect solution for busy weeknights, offering a delicious and satisfying dinner that can easily be customized with different proteins or veggies.

Ingredients

Lo mein noodles or spaghetti noodles

Broccoli florets

Olive oil

Flank steak, sliced against the grain

Garlic cloves, minced

Carrot, shredded

Brown sugar

Soy sauce (preferably reduced-sodium)

Hoisin sauce

Sesame oil

Ground ginger

Crushed red pepper flakes

Salt and pepper to taste

Green onions and sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta: Boil noodles according to package directions. Add broccoli to the boiling water during the last 5 minutes of cooking. Drain the noodles and broccoli.

  2. Cook steak: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the steak and cook until browned. Add garlic and shredded carrots, cooking for another minute.

  3. Prepare sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, ginger, red pepper flakes, and pepper.

  4. Combine: Add the cooked noodles to the skillet with the steak and vegetables. Pour the sauce over and toss everything together until well combined.

Notes

No noodles: Skip the noodles for a lighter stir-fry option.

Protein swaps: Use chicken or shrimp for a different flavor.

Veggies only: Make a vegetarian lo mein by omitting the beef and adding more vegetables or tofu.
