Description

Applesauce Cake is a moist, spiced cake filled with cozy flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. With the sweetness of applesauce and a soft texture, this easy-to-make dessert is perfect for any occasion. Whether served plain or topped with whipped cream or caramel sauce, it’s a comforting treat that everyone will love.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon cloves

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup applesauce

2 large eggs

Instructions

  • Prepare the Oven and Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

  • Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.

  • Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, applesauce, and eggs until well combined.

  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until everything is just incorporated. Be careful not to overmix.

  • Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  • Cool the Cake: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

  • Serve: Once the cake has cooled, slice and serve as is, or top with whipped cream, caramel sauce, or a dusting of powdered sugar.

Notes

Add Nuts or Raisins: For extra texture, add chopped walnuts, pecans, or raisins to the batter.

Glaze It: Drizzle with a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk, or a caramel glaze for a richer flavor.

Make It Frosted: If you prefer, top with cream cheese frosting or spiced buttercream.
