Description

This moist and flavorful Applesauce Cake combines warm spices with the natural sweetness of applesauce. Perfect for fall or year-round indulgence, it’s easy to make and customizable with different add-ins like nuts or frosting. A simple yet cozy dessert or breakfast treat.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup applesauce

2 large eggs

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch square baking pan.

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.

  • Stir in melted butter, applesauce, and eggs until fully combined.

  • Transfer the batter to the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

  • Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Add-ins: Stir in 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans) or raisins for added texture.

Frosting: Top with cream cheese frosting or powdered sugar for extra sweetness.

Spice Variations: Customize spices by adding ginger or allspice to your taste.

Applesauce: Use unsweetened applesauce for a less sweet cake or cinnamon-flavored applesauce for extra spice.

For moistness, avoid overbaking and consider adding a tablespoon of sour cream or yogurt.
