Description

These Baked Apple Fritters are a healthier twist on the classic fried version, with tender apples, warm cinnamon, and nutmeg, all encased in a light, crispy exterior. Topped with a sweet glaze, these fritters make the perfect breakfast, snack, or dessert. Baked instead of fried, they’re a lighter yet indulgent treat you can enjoy any time of the day!

Ingredients

For the Fritters:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, and melted butter.
  • Make the Batter: Gradually mix the wet and dry ingredients until a thick batter forms, then fold in the diced apples.
  • Shape the Fritters: Spoon mounds of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake: Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Make the Glaze: While fritters cool, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze.
  • Glaze the Fritters: Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters and serve.

Notes

  • Add Nuts: Mix in chopped walnuts or pecans for added crunch.
  • Vegan Version: Use plant-based milk and a flax egg for a vegan-friendly version.
  • Other Fruits: Substitute apples with pears, peaches, or berries for a different twist.
