Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch bundt pan or two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter and sugar mixture, alternating with small amounts of milk until everything is well combined.
  • Divide the batter into two bowls. In one bowl, add cocoa powder and a bit of milk to create the chocolate batter.
  • Alternately spoon dollops of the vanilla and chocolate batter into the prepared pan(s), then use a knife or skewer to swirl the two batters together.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes (for round pans) or 50-60 minutes (for bundt pan), or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra chocolatey goodness, add chocolate chips to the batter.
  • Add frosting options like chocolate ganache or a dusting of powdered sugar for extra sweetness.
