Description

Indulge in this classic Flan, a traditional Mexican dessert known for its creamy texture and rich caramel flavor. Made with sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and eggs, this silky dessert is topped with a luscious caramel sauce. Perfect for special occasions or a sweet end to any meal, this easy-to-make recipe will delight your taste buds with minimal effort.

Ingredients

1 cup sugar (for caramel)

4 large eggs

1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Make the caramel: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar while stirring constantly until it turns golden brown. Pour the caramel into a 9-inch pie dish or flan pan, swirling to coat the bottom. Set aside to cool.

  • Prepare the flan mixture: In a blender, combine eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth.

  • Pour the flan mixture into the pan: Pour the flan mixture over the set caramel in the pan. Strain if desired for a smoother texture.

  • Bake the flan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the flan dish into a larger pan and fill it with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan dish. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until set. Test doneness by inserting a knife in the center—if it comes out clean, it’s ready.

  • Cool and refrigerate: Let the flan cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight to fully set.

  • Serve the flan: To serve, run a knife around the edges, then place a plate over the pan and flip it upside down. The caramel will pour over the top. Slice and enjoy!

Notes

Flavor Variations: Add citrus zest, cinnamon, coconut milk, or even coffee to the flan mixture for added flavors.

Toppings: Serve with whipped cream or a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra richness.

Storage: Store leftover flan in the fridge for up to 4 days, tightly covered.
