Description

Mint Chip Ice Cream Bon Bons are bite-sized frozen treats that combine the creamy freshness of mint chip ice cream with a crisp chocolate coating. These refreshing and indulgent bon bons are easy to make, perfect for parties, or as a cool treat on a hot day.

Ingredients

For the Mint Chip Ice Cream:

2 cups half & half

1 cup fresh mint leaves

¾ cup granulated sugar

4 egg yolks

2 cups heavy cream

1 teaspoon pure mint extract

2 tablespoons creme de menthe (optional)

For the Chocolate Coating:

1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Make the Ice Cream: In a saucepan, combine half & half, fresh mint leaves, sugar, and egg yolks. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens (about 8-10 minutes). Remove from heat and strain to remove mint leaves. Stir in heavy cream, mint extract, and creme de menthe (if using). Chill the mixture in the fridge for several hours. Once chilled, churn in an ice cream maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

  2. Shape the Bon Bons: Once the ice cream is ready, scoop it into small balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze until firm, about 2-3 hours.

  3. Coat with Chocolate: Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler. Dip each frozen ice cream ball into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is coated completely. Return to the parchment-lined sheet and freeze until the chocolate hardens, about 1-2 hours.

  4. Serve: Enjoy these mint chip ice cream bon bons straight from the freezer for a cool and refreshing treat!

Notes

Flavored Ice Cream: You can swap mint chip ice cream for chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry to suit your preference.

Chocolate Coating Variations: Try using white chocolate or milk chocolate for a different twist.
