Description

This homemade honey oat bread combines the natural sweetness of honey with the hearty texture of oats, resulting in a soft and flavorful loaf. Perfect for sandwiches, toasting with butter, or enjoying alongside soups, this bread is simple to make and free from processed sugar. The oats give it an extra layer of nutrition and flavor that makes it stand out.

Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

2 teaspoons dry active yeast

1 teaspoon fine sea salt

2 tablespoons butter

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup lukewarm water

1/4 cup raw, natural honey

For topping:

2 tablespoons honey

2 tablespoons oats

Instructions

  • Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, oats, yeast, and salt.

  • Heat Wet Ingredients: In a saucepan, heat the milk and butter over medium-low heat until the butter melts. Stir in the honey and water.

  • Mix Dough: Pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients. Mix until combined. Knead with a dough hook for 6-8 minutes or by hand, adding flour as needed to form a smooth, non-sticky dough.

  • First Rise: Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a kitchen towel and let rise for 30-60 minutes until doubled in size.

  • Shape and Second Rise: Roll out the dough into a loaf shape and place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan. Let it rise for another 30-60 minutes.

  • Topping: Brush the top of the dough with honey and sprinkle with oats.

  • Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Add-ins: Feel free to add nuts or seeds like sunflower seeds, flax seeds, or chopped walnuts into the dough.

Dairy-free: Substitute the milk with almond or coconut milk and use dairy-free butter for a dairy-free version.

Sweetness Adjustments: Add more honey if you’d prefer a sweeter loaf.
