Ingredients

For the Goulash:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes (undrained)
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (optional, for depth)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni

For Garnish (Optional):

  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley (chopped)
  • Crushed red pepper flakes (for heat)

Instructions

  • Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces.
  • Add diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion softens and becomes translucent.
  • Stir in diced tomatoes (with juice), tomato paste, beef or vegetable broth, water, Worcestershire sauce, dried basil, oregano, and paprika. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Bring to a simmer and add uncooked elbow macaroni. Stir, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and the sauce thickens. Stir occasionally.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot with optional garnishes like grated Parmesan, fresh parsley, and crushed red pepper flakes.
