Ingredients

  • For the Meat Mixture:
    • 1 lb lean ground beef
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 1 small yellow onion, diced
    • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
    • 8 oz brown mushrooms, minced
    • 2 tablespoons ketchup
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
    • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
    • 1 cup beef broth
    • 6 oz provolone cheese, chopped
  • For Serving:
    • 6 brioche hamburger buns, toasted

Instructions

  • Brown the Ground Beef:
    • Heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart.
    • Remove the beef from the skillet, leaving any rendered fat behind.
  • Sauté the Vegetables:
    • Add butter, diced onion, bell pepper, and minced mushrooms to the same skillet.
    • Cook for 1-2 minutes without stirring to allow caramelization.
    • Stir and cook for another 1-2 minutes until softened.
  • Combine Beef and Vegetables:
    • Return the browned beef to the skillet with the sautéed veggies.
    • Stir to combine.
  • Make the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together beef broth and cornstarch until smooth.
    • Pour into the skillet along with ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper.
    • Stir well and simmer for 3-5 minutes until thickened.
  • Melt the Cheese:
    • Turn off the heat and add chopped provolone cheese to the skillet.
    • Stir until melted and evenly mixed.
  • Assemble the Sandwiches:
    • Toast the brioche buns until lightly golden.
    • Spoon generous portions of the Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joe mixture onto each bun.
  • Serve & Enjoy!

Notes

  • For Extra Flavor: Add minced garlic, smoked paprika, or a splash of hot sauce.
