Description

These Sourdough Cheesy Breadsticks are the perfect way to use up sourdough discard. With a crispy exterior and soft, fluffy interior, they are topped with melted butter, garlic, and cheese. Ready in just 30 minutes, these cheesy breadsticks are ideal for dipping in marinara, pairing with soup, or enjoying as a snack or appetizer!

Ingredients

For the Breadsticks:

  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup sourdough discard
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

For the Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: Combine warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make the Dough: Add garlic salt, olive oil, sourdough discard, and flour to the yeast mixture. Mix and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  3. Shape the Dough: Roll the dough into a rectangle on a baking sheet. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder, parsley, and cheese.
  4. Bake: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve: Slice into breadsticks and enjoy with dipping sauce!
