Ingredients
1 lb New York strip steak (or sirloin)
1 cup shiitake mushrooms, sliced
1 tbsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 shallot, finely chopped
1 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped
1 baguette, sliced into 1-inch pieces
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet. Toast them in the oven for about 8 minutes until golden and crispy.
-
While the bread is toasting, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Season the steak with salt and pepper, then cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer to your desired doneness. Remove from the pan and let rest.
-
In the same skillet, add the minced garlic, chopped shallot, and rosemary. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
-
Add the sliced shiitake mushrooms to the skillet, cooking for about 5 minutes, until they release their moisture and become tender.
-
Slice the rested steak thinly against the grain.
-
To assemble, place a slice of steak and a spoonful of the mushroom mixture on each crostini.
-
Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
Storage: Best served fresh, but if you have leftovers, store the crostini components separately. Keep the crostini at room temperature and the steak and mushrooms in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat the steak and mushrooms before assembling.
Different Mushrooms: Substitute shiitake mushrooms with portobello or cremini for a different flavor profile.
Cheese Options: Add grated parmesan or crumbled blue cheese for added richness.
Herb Variations: Feel free to substitute rosemary with thyme or parsley.
