Description
These sweet brioche buns are soft, buttery, and irresistible. Perfect for breakfast, sandwiches, or dinner rolls, they have a melt-in-your-mouth texture and a golden, slightly sweet crust. Simple to make at home, they offer a homemade flavor and aroma that store-bought buns can’t match.
Ingredients
2 1/4 tsp yeast
1/2 cup milk (room temperature or slightly warm)
1/2 cup butter (melted)
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
3 eggs (1 separated)
3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose or bread flour
Instructions
-
Activate Yeast: In a bowl, combine milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Stir and let sit for 5 minutes until the yeast is activated and bubbly.
-
Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix melted butter and sugar. Add 2 eggs and the egg yolk (set the egg white aside for egg wash), then stir in the yeast mixture.
-
Add Flour: Gradually add flour, starting with 2 cups, and mix until the dough is smooth and not too sticky. Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
-
First Rise: Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
-
Shape the Dough: Once risen, punch down the dough and transfer it to a floured surface. Divide the dough into 8 to 12 pieces, shaping them into balls or your desired shape.
-
Second Rise: Place the shaped dough on a baking sheet, leaving 1-2 inches between each bun. Let them proof for 30 minutes.
-
Egg Wash: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Brush the buns with the reserved egg white for a golden finish.
-
Bake: Bake for 15 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown.
-
Cool: Let the buns cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
Herb Variation: Add rosemary or thyme to the dough for a savory twist.
Sweet Variation: Mix cinnamon or nutmeg into the dough for extra flavor.
Cheese Option: Add grated cheese to the dough for a cheesy brioche bun.
