Description

The Spicy Korean Fire Chicken Sandwich is a bold and flavorful fusion dish featuring crispy, gochujang-marinated chicken thighs topped with spicy mayo, fresh vegetables, and a toasted bun. This easy 25-minute recipe delivers the perfect balance of heat, crunch, and zest, making it an irresistible meal for spice lovers.

Ingredients

  • 2 boneless chicken thighs
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 sandwich buns
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp sriracha (optional)
  • ½ cup shredded lettuce
  • ¼ cup sliced cucumber
  • 1 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: Mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, gochujang, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic in a bowl. Coat the chicken and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry chicken for 5-6 minutes per side until crispy and fully cooked.
  3. Prepare Spicy Mayo: Combine mayonnaise with sriracha (if using) in a small bowl.
  4. Toast the Buns: Lightly toast the sandwich buns until golden brown.
  5. Assemble the Sandwich: Spread spicy mayo on the bottom bun, place fried chicken on top, add shredded lettuce, cucumber slices, cilantro, and sesame seeds. Cover with the top bun and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a grilled version, cook the marinated chicken on a grill instead of frying.
  • Substitute chicken with tofu or portobello mushrooms for a vegetarian option.
  • Use brioche, ciabatta, or lettuce wraps for different textures.
  • Add kimchi, pickled radishes, or a fried egg for extra layers of flavor.
  • To store leftovers, keep ingredients separate in airtight containers and reheat chicken in an oven at 350°F for 10 minutes.
