Ingredients
For the Pastry
- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
For the Custard Filling

- ⅓ cup custard powder
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
For the Icing
- 1 ½ cups icing sugar
- 1 tbsp softened butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2–3 tbsp milk (as needed)
Instructions
Prepare the Puff Pastry
- Preheat oven to 190°C (374°F).
- Lay puff pastry sheets on a lined baking tray, prick with a fork, and bake for 10-15 minutes until golden. Cool completely.
Make the Custard Filling
- In a saucepan, whisk sugar and custard powder.
- Add cream, milk, and vanilla, whisking until smooth.
- Cook over low heat, stirring continuously, until thickened (10-15 minutes).
- Transfer to a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1-2 hours.
Prepare the Icing
- Mix icing sugar, butter, and vanilla.
- Add milk gradually until smooth and spreadable.
Assemble the Slice
- Place one pastry sheet in a 25×25 cm square tin.
- Spread custard evenly, then top with the second pastry sheet.
- Spread icing over the top and refrigerate for 4-6 hours (overnight preferred).
Cutting and Serving
- Use scissors or a serrated knife for the top layer, then a sharp knife for clean slices.
- Serve chilled.
Notes
- For a chocolate version, add cocoa to the custard.
